I agree with Tulsalady, I start mine in a propagator but you have to have the right condiions to grow them on afterwards they cannot go outside until all danger of frost has passed

Every year I start my tomatoes from seed far too early. Despite heated propagators and even a fluorescent 'daylight' light, they get a bit leggy and never make as good plants as ones sown later. In fact, the later sown ones often overtake the coddled ones.
Tulsalady26 is right, leave them to March or April.
On the other hand, if you can buy a well-grown bushy plant around that time, it will give you slightly earlier fruit if planted in the greenhouse or in a pot under cover.

I would wait until the weather warms up,I never set mine before the end of march even into april.Hope this helps.
