Sorry I have a catapal tree and it bloomed last year but had no bean pods on it. Does it have to be a certain age before it gets them

No, they don't - it's the flowers that turn into the pods. Possibly they weren't fertilised and never set seed, or shrivelled/dropped from the tree for some reason before it was able to set seed; this might happen during a period of drought or sudden cold spell.

I've had one for approx. 12 years and have never had any bean pods , i've had the flowers . the tree is quite large and about 10 ft tall thats a guess I haven't measured it ......
