you should be planting the canes between now and the end of February. Dig a trench and fill with compost before you plant the canes. If it is the summer fruiting raspberry then you will need to have supports for the canes. Easiest way to do that is to have a stake at either end of the row of canes and wire running at about 4 foot on both sides of the canes then you can tie them in to keep them upright. You wont get much in the way of a crop for the first couple of years. After the canes have fruited, around August time, you will need to cut those canes out and just leave the new growth that has occurred since you planted them. Reduce the height of these new canes to around 5 foot. Raspberries are wonderful fruits to grow!
