Hi I have a Bill Mackenzie which is about two years old this year the same as last I cut it back to about two foot but it doesn't seem to doing anything should it be getting growth on it by now?

Don't be in too big a hurry to dig it out, we have had Clematis take a year off and return the following season.

Oh yes, don't discard it... It will revive.
It has had a bit of a shock for this year, but though a bit of sulking may go on in a couple of years it will be back to its bountiful best. Then trim the ends as required to keep it within bounds.

I have an herbaceous Clematis ( a non-climber) which showed no shoots at all last summer. I assumed it was dead but didn't get around to digging it out. This year it has lots of strong shoots! So, give it plenty of time.

Everything is late this year, but it ought to have some growth by now. Must confess I have never cut ours back and it is now over 30 feet up a tree.
