I bought these plug begonias a while ago now and put them in my hanging baskets in the greenhouse to bring them on. Since then I've had to repot them as they were spindly and unhealthy looking. They are growing very very slowly and some have died. I was hoping to put them in tubs/ baskets but want to ask if you think I'm wasting my time. Didn't really want to buy any but time is pressing on.

They look like they're from jersey plants direct !! Mine went the same but to be honest, since we've had this warm weather, they've put on a lot of growth down in the greenhouse.

Begonias hate being cold and wet. I would suggest that you keep what you have in a nice warm place and keep them fairly dry...ie only water when it looks like they could suffer....begonias tolerate dry quite well. You might get them going again and end up with a late display.

Good luck

Thanks Andy, no they were from T&M . Ah right I'm partly to blame then as I may have overwatered them. Will persevere then

I had mine from Jersey Plants and they are just starting to show flower buds, they are slow because of the weather, but starting to get going, I had them last year and find them quite hardy and very reliable and bug free too. Mine had been outside for ages before putting in pots.

I would never buy anything from T&M ever again. I don't think I'm alone in this. Their quality across the spectrum - seeds, bulbs, plants, etc., falls somewhere between less than wonderful and downright substandard.

To be honest Gattina I have had no problems with T&M. I usually get all my seeds from them and have had the odd plant and so far they have more than exceeded my needs. You've obviously had a bad experience with them but I can only find them as they have been for me. I do think that it's probably been how I have dealt with the begonias myself and can't really portion blame on anyone else .

Two years ago I sent off for 15 begonia corms from T&M - they arrived, very small, and only 9 of them ever came to anything. At the same time my OH bought me 6 corms loose from a little local garden centre (UK) at about 60% of the unit price, and they gave a magnificent display. No contest.

I know just what you mean Gattina, I,ve bought local this year too and been much happier, even their seeds have a poor germination rate in comparison to other suppliers

If I got 30% germination of T&M seeds I thought I was doing well, but other suppliers' seed germination rate finally convinced me it wasn't anything I'd been doing wrong.

How do I say thanks?
