I was weeding in the garden the other day, and came across these rather curious 'plants' they are in an area where I have used Bark Mulch, but can anyone tell me what they are?

Crocus speciosus (autumn flowering crocus) seedheads. Ring any bells, Waddy?

Normal spring flowering crocus (C. thommasinianus for example) will also put up seed heads like that....mine seed everywhere to the point of becoming a weed !!!!

Well, well, well, Thank you everyone. I had no idea. I do have a few spring Crocus in this area as it happens. Can I just leave them in to spread? I wouldn't mind that at all.

Yep...although they probably won't flower for 2 or 3 years. The seeds will germinate and look like grass so don't pull it out when you weed.
Good luck

Might be better to collect the seed and sow in a pot then put somewhere outside, that way you'll know it is the seeds germinating and not grass growing.

Thanks for the advise!
