I know this is a Ficus benjamina but is anyone familiar with this variety? I bought it a couple years ago but have not seen one like it since. The new growth is yellow and brighter in sunlight and it may be hard to tell in the photo but the leaves have a darker green blotch in the middle.

This is a different variegated variety, the new leaves are supposed to be yellow. It has been growing very good, it is only 2 years old. I feed it with a slow-release fertilizer and it is in good health but I agree that the yellow leaves often make plants look a bit off. It was potted on last Spring, the roots still have plenty of room.

What's its varietal name?

I wish I knew for certain, that is what I was trying to figure out actually. It looks very similar to the varieties 'Reginald', 'Margarita' and 'Golden Monique'. Golden Monique has wavy leaves as it matures so my guess is Margarita based on images I've seen. It's really a beautiful plant, especially in the evening when you can see the contrast between the yellow and green leaves better.

I've certainly not seen one anywhere, though to be fair, I might have, and just thought perhaps some of the leaves were turning yellow before dropping, without looking closely.

I have not seen one since I found this one. It was at a home improvement store and the tag just said Ficus benjamina but did not list a variety. I can certainly see why it would be easy to think this plant is sick!

I've never seen that. The variegated, the dwarf are the only cultivars of F. benjamina here. Maybe since you are much closer the Florida growers you have a larger selection. I know that the variegated I've seen were not as nice as the best ones on the net- more tropical I suppose.

I have this plant, and a variegated version, both now over five feet tall, kept as houseplants. They do not like direct sun, but do prefer a bright spot. The leaves on yours might be suffering from sun exposure, and I wonder if you feed it at all? Also, when it was last potted on? The leaves should be mid to darkish green, so yellowing in this plant indicates a bit of a problem.
