Tarragon

This is probably a stupid question but the fresh tarragon you buy in the shop, is that called French Tarragon. I'm stocking up my allotment with things I use so would like to grow my own. Also if anyone has tried doing Tarragon, am I right in thinking it's a perenial but if your in a mild area you might be able to keep it going over winter? Thanks

The one you want is artemisia dracunculus, french tarragon, not A. Dracunculus inodora, which is Russian tarragon,if you buy at the garden centre. I imagine what supermarkets sell will be the French one, but I've never bought it (hate tarragon). Needs protection from both frost and winter wet outdoors if you want to keep it year on year.

And there's rarely such a thing as a stupid question. Never be afraid to ask anything. We all started somewhere, and the more you learn about plants, the more you realise you have to learn. There are many 'experts' out there, and if they tell you they are, ignore them. Instead, find someone who knows!
ps Don't ask me about bedding plants!

I should have picked up on your 'stupid' remark, but I was on my tablet and its much harder to respond on that, so I'll echo Worthy's response. And don't ask me about veg growing!
