Hi. I live close to Hampton court. We frequently have swarms (if that's the correct word), of parakeets. For some reason they have started to eat my climbing roses. I have waited for three years for these particular roses to reach the top of my arch and to start training them across to meet and today all the buds have been eaten by these birds. Any ideas?

I would try an unsweetened soft drink powder, grape or cherry flavor--here in the States we use Koolaid--mix it up about 4 times normal strength, and spray the buds with it. Most birds don't like the artificial flavor.

Or a garlic spray. That seems to be effective, too, on the same lines

I understand they are known as Kingston or Twickenham Parakeets and live wild in these suburbs, and bred from one original pair that escaped in the 1990's. You could try bird scarers or nets?
