HELP!!!! Apple tree developed patches of white fungus ???aphids??? Well established tree producing lovely sweet red apples every year - had no problems in the past - have sprayed patches with soapy water this morning - any advice would be much appreciated - Thankyou.

Could well be Woolly aphids. Soapy water and a scrubbing brush s the best answer. The wool is wax and soap dissolves it so the insect then dehydrates. Better to use a Horticultural soft soap, but that is a counsel of excellence.
