I have a small Davidia handkerchief tree which I am growing in a large pot as I don't have enough soil in the beds to plant it and have successfully planted and grown other small trees in pots. The Davidia is in a South facing garden which gets VERY hot when the sun shines, and also recently we have had some strong warm winds. I water the tree daily and it is now showing signs of dying with leaves turning black and shrivelling. Is there anything I can do to rescue the tree please?

All I can say is that I have one which has been 20 years in a pot. When I have let it get dry, the leaves go limp, then crisp up and shrivel, but never turn black. It's still fine. The pot is a 160 litre one and I struggle to move it!
Re your tree, two things to check;-
one, make sure it's not waterlogged - so make sure the pot drains freely.
two, make sure it's not dry at the bottom of the root ball. Sometimes we think we're watering enough, and the conditions beat us.
Check those two things are sorted and then perhaps we can pursue it further
