I've been trying to identify a group of trees for years now but as they are on the south terminal roundabout to Gatwick airport, it is impossible to stop and take a photo. I did snap one through a bus window but can't download it. The leaves are exactly the same as oak but the tree is the shape of a poplar - upright branches pointing skyward and a slender shaped tree. Any ideas please?

It may be a fastigiate oak, quercus ruber f. fastigiata. Lovely narrow vase shaped tree. They call it the cypress oak.

And, the best nursery I know for such trees is Mallet Court Nursery, Somerset. He specialises in oaks, beech, acers. You'll be amazed at the number of different species and cultivars.

If you look on Google or Bing Maps for the roundabout and zoom at the trees you can take a screenshot of them and post that here.
