Do you have to? It won't re-grow. Ignore it and plant round it.

Worthy1 is right - I left the stump and use it to put a pot & dish on. Then I planted around it. One day it will fall apart, but then it will be easy to remove.

When I had some cut down the tree surgeon put a chain on the chain saw and got them down to ground level and drilled holes in before applying stump killer.

When my Conifers were cut down I asked the Tree Surgeon - he said to leave it, it would not regrow.

The stump killer also speeds up the rotting process thats why I use it.

I just left mine, doing no harm as long as its not too high. If it is too high put something decorative on top.
