What if the water has a lot of salt or some oil in it?

Bath and kitchen waste water, aka grey water, is better than no water and should be ok for plants but not edible ones. The biggest problem in using grey water is not to the plants but to the soil. The different chemicals that are in shampoo, bubble bath, shower gels, etc can interfere with the soil structure.
Soil does a very good job at filtering out most of these chemicals before they get to to plant. As long as you don't use grey water all the time... Try and alternate it with clean, preferably rain water, try not to get the bath water on the leaves and if possible water the plants away from the base of the plant then you should be ok.
Another thing to remember is that shampoo, bubble bath and shower gels contain salt and some bath products contain antibacterial chemicals that will break down the natural soil structure and cause havoc.

Best to shower or bath in clear water with no bath products. I do, then save the water in containers for the garden.

Bulba and I use organic products when we shower - just as we do for washing clothes and dishes... Would still worry about using on vegetables though.

Yes on your flower borders if you are desperate for water I would use on vegetables though.
