Rowan Tree
Can anyone tell me what is matter with my Rowan tree? Could it be that it got over wet this spring and then 'baked' for the last several weeks, and will it recover?
Thanks.

Yes. Only the tips are scorched, a good sign that the tree has suffered dryness. Luckily it looks as though the rest of the leaf is good, and therefore probably the rest of the tree will be fine.

I nearly lost my Rowan tree 3-4 years ago from dryness, it was about 8 years old then. Apparently if planted from container grown their roots have a tendency to keep growing in a circle (even when teased out) for a few years and they are unable to take up water .
I left the hose on mine, dripping around its base for 24 hours to give it a real soaking and then kept it well watered in dry periods for the next couple of years, last summer and this summer its been okay without extra watering.

Does the tree otherwise look healthy, can I ask? Are all the leaves like this, or are the affected ones only on certain branches? And how long has it been planted...

All in all they are fairly robust. It looks (as worthy says) as though only the tips are scorched.
A good soaking will do it the world of good.
I have blackbirds queueing up awaiting the berrys to ripen. Some scorched leaves are evident but overall the tree is fine.

Thank you for all your comments. The tree was already here when we moved in 6 years ago, I do prune it to keep it small. I would say about 60% of the leaves are affected, it is planted on it's own in the middle of a pebble area which has black liner underneath, could this have stopped water getting to it? I will try giving it a good soak.

Keep an eye on it over the next year or so - if it starts to look brown and burned in clumps or all over, remove it. with any luck, though, its just the effect of the extreme hot and dry weather we had recently.

How do I say thanks?
