Tiger lily is the common name of one of several species of 'Turks Cap' lilies but they are all treated the same. Flowers do only last a few weeks and I have noticed that this year the flowering period has been shorter than usual. I attribute this to the hot weather. They do not have a second flowering period but I would leave the stems until the leaves start to wither and then cut them down to soil level.
If they have been in the same container for the whole five years then I would unpot them at the end of the suumer and re-plant in fresh compost. They will have taken up all the nutrient from the old compost and need refreshing. You will probably find that you now have many more bulbs than you started with so, if you can separate them carefully, they can be planted in a new container of given to neighbours.

You can cut off the flowering spike now to stop the bulb setting seed but, as Bulba says, the leaves should be left to die back naturally so they feed the bulb.

Thank you for your tip, I am wondering for the past five years I have never took the spikes off do you think I am lucky to keep them ,I shall do it now, I have grown them in the same trough ,every year i split them and add new compost and next year I think I will have to put them in new containers . Hi Dawn, Bulba and I don't remove seed heads as we collect the seed to go to the SRGC seed exchange there is no harm in leaving them on but if you don't want the seed it isn't necessary. Sounds like you have been looking after them well and they are showing that by there continued presence.
