I thought it was a Salvia microphylla var. neurepia Worthy, what do you think?

Thanks for all your answers I have been told it is a Salvia but I still can not find any thing like it. Flowers look like little bees and the colour is crimson and very dark blue. The flowers seem to be on the last 2 inches of stem. It has certainly got me racing round the internet trying to find it. Thanks again.

Well on closer inspection and trawling through the seed catalog I think you may well be right Cuphea tiny mice even though the garden centre told me it was a hardy perennial. We shall see if it lives through the winter. Thank you all for your help.

Cuphea llavea, aka Bat Face Cuphea. I think 'Tiny Mice' may be a cultivar or hybrid of this cute species. A tropical species, it likes warmth, humidity, and regular watering and feeding. We occasionally use it as a half-shaded bog plant, here in the desert.
