We have a fairly large area filled with various shrubs and trees that you can walk around. Currently the floor covering is bare soil that is a killer for weeding. I'm not keen on grass as moving around them all will be very tricky. Wood chipping reviews say they attract weeds. Is this true? Has anyone any other ideas. It needs to be walkable on as we have dogs who run round

Wood chippings don't attract weeds, as long as they are at least 5 cm deep, but they often attract bugs. Finer textured grades are less likely to do this, and are going to be more comfortable for the dogs. On the other hand, finer grades rot faster, and will need renewed more often--good for the soil, though. Monthly spraying with cedar oil, during the bug season, will help keep the pests down, too.

Try contacting a local tree surgeon. They often like to recycle and will let you have wood that has been through their chipper at a fraction of the cost of buying stuff
