Moving a hydrangea? I have recently put in a new seating area in my garden which means I need to re think a border which is now obscured. I am going to do a complete re plant I think but that means moving a lovely lace cap hydrangea and a pretty Hybiscus. Both planted about 4 years ago and seem quite well established. Any tips on when and how to best move these plants to give them the best chance of success in their new locations?

Thanks Louisa. I'd quite like to put bamboos into the revamped border. Do you think I could do everything end oct/ early nov before it gets really cold to work in the garden?

Be very careful indeed about putting bamboo into your border as so much of it is invasive and you'll never get rid of it! Be absolutely certain that it's not a type that's going to become a major headache before you plant it in the ground! Might be safer to keep it in a pot where you can control it.
Yes, October / November is a good time, then they can get settled in over the winter.

Thank you. Much appreciated

You'd be better waiting till winter when they're dormant. Moving them now while they're in leaf will put a lot of stress on them and might be too much for them.
