My potted green lace acer had not been watered for 2+ weeks whilst on holiday. It is now losing leaves alarmingly. Is it dying. I have been watering twice daily since my return (1 week). Can it be saved? What is the best thing to do?

I would cut back slightly on the watering, only doing so when the top inch or so of soil is dry, otherwise the soil will become waterlogged. Move to a shady area, it will survive but may lose all its leaves early this year.

If the pot is not too large, place the whole pot in a tub of water and allow the compost to get soaked (the water should come about 3/4 of the way up the pot). Leave it overnight then lift the pot out and allow it to drain. Hopefully it will be OK next year.

I forgot to water my potted acer and nearly all the leaves went crispy so I moved it into shade, removed the nearly dead leaves and made sure it didn't dry out, it's now recovered and back in its old spot, with new leaves appearing.

How do I say thanks?
