I think we have "red thread" on our back lawn, see attached photo, what can we do about it? a weed and feed or kill off the whole lawn and re-seed?

this looks like a lack of water to me. sections of my grass look like this and after the recent rain it has greened up again.
'red thread' has grass blades with gelatinous fungal growths attached to it. then pale pink fungal growth develops.
