Having lifted a rhubarb from a pot ready for transplanting on my allotment, found vine weevils. Killed all I saw but is there a killer for the developing ones suitable for edible plants?

You're probably OK as long as you washed all the little grubs out of the soil. There is a nematode that you can buy to water on. These are little microscopic worms that eat the grubs. Amazon sell them for £16. Quite expensive, so try the root washing first. Also, don't use the old compost around the garden...bin it.
