The vast majority of plants for rockeries need sun, for at least part of the day. How shady is the area?

Hi - thanks for your reply. I'm afraid it gets very little sun. Its overshadowed by conifers which give us a natural barrier from traffic noise. It is an area that needs a lot of TLC and one that hasn't been attended too since moving into our property nearly 9 years ago. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A photograph would be helpful. Rockery plants that will grow under conifers a few and far between but if we can see the site someone may have some suggestions. If the rockery has been neglected for so long it may be quite difficult to weed - they are not low maintenance things. You might be better using a few shade loving shrubs.
