If you're going to dig it over anyway, then you might as well remove the weeds as you go. You'd probably still have to dig up the dead weeds anyway.

hi guest... it's not a good idea what i do is poor hot water with salt mixed in it then it is easy to pull weeds out when you dig it over.

I'm also not sure that hot water is a good idea as it will affect the soil structure... We used to have a hedge at the front of our garden, a good healthy hedge - until we had a bad winter. There are no pavements in the village so when the gritter came through the village it salted the hedge. Result dead hedge. We tried again, same thing. We now have a dry stone double dyke with soil in the middle and grow plants in that.

Agreed. Many trees that grow along roadsides show signs of stress due to salt damage. It causes ex-osmosis - i.e. the water is drawn out of the roots and leaves.
