Honeysuckle question is it too old? This is around 20-25 years old, it did produce flowers last summer and the smell in the evening was lovely, but mostly at the top the rest of the branches are quite bare, is there anything I can do to prepare it for spring, to help it? The bottom of the branches at the soil are very thick and gnarly (if thats the correct term).

I have one that looked like this 2 years ago. I was a bit ruthless and hacked the stems down to about 1ft high. I gave it a good mulch of eaf mould and fb&b. It has grown fantastically but didnt flower in the first year but boy did it last season.

Spend some time to take the whole plant down, dead wood it. Then tie it back, weaving the stems from side to side. Paint the fence with a water based paint.
