Hi everyone, please advise, do I need to cut my border fuchsias down to a few inches from ground level before first frosts. Thanks.

It also helps in case of a hard winter to cover the root area with a mulch of something, dry bracken, fallen leaves etc.

Indeed and if you buy any more I'd suggest planting them about 2 inches lower in the ground than they were in the pot ... to give them added frost protection

Re covering the roots with something added, I always find the dead topgrowth traps lots of leaves off trees and other plants. I leave those in place all winter - doesn't look great, but does add insulation.

No, absolutely not. Just leave them exactly as they are over winter. Yes, you'll be looking at a bunch of dead sticks, but the topgrowth protects the roots. The time to cut these is Spring, once you see signs of budding on the apparently dead stems. If the winter is very harsh, hardy fuchsias may be killed back to the ground, in which case, remove all the topgrowth in mid to late Spring and let it grow anew
