I have a palm tree type plant in my front garden that I bought about two foot tall about 15 years ago. It is now about 6 feet tall and last year grew a flowering branch. Once the flower seemed to die down I cut the branch off (it was quite chunky). The tree top itself was at the time healthy with lots of palm leaves. A month or so later the tree seemed to deteriorate and now several months on has just lost the last of its leaves. Is it dead or will it grow again? Please advise.

Depends which plant it is, really - some palm like plants die after they flower, others don't - I think it might have to be a wait and see what happens by late spring thing, I'm afraid.
