I have never heard of growing fuchsia seeds, why not buy young plants, much quicker. ?

Breeders collect their own seed to try and get a new variety. I imagine they'd flower in their first year, but rather later than ones bought as young plants and you might not get plants of very good quality.

the true species ones clearly set seed as thats how they reproduce in the wild. so it will depend on which species Steveg buys.

You can get fuchsia seed from specialist suppliers. If they are annuals they will flower this year, biennials next year and perenials in a few years time.

Steve, look at the website urle above, It tells you all about propogating Fuchsia tilletiana from seed. He does not say if it is an annual or not but, from the length of time it takes for the seed to germinate I suspect that it might be perenial and so will not flower this year. Let us know how you get on.

Next question
As far as I'm aware, it's not possible to buy fuchsia seeds, so I'm wondering where you're getting the seeds from. Results from seeds are variable, so its more usual to buy the plants and take cuttings if you want more.
