Recently my palm has grown a purple stalk, I've had it for 3 years and it's never done this before. It seems to have grown 5 inches over the last week...anybody know what type of Palm it is and what it's doing? :/

It is not a palm. It is Yucca gloriosa variegata and as Urbanite has said it is the flower stalk.

It is a nice plant! Mine are still quite small and a good few years away from flowering. You can collect seeds from them and grow loads more if you wanted to.

Thanks Kildermorie, I will give it a try. I think next time I'll plant them away from Conifers to give them more room to grow. Ive had these for 3 years and my soil is mostly clay based so I am surprised they have lasted this long let alone being able to flower.
