i would like to have a living memmorial to my mum. Can you think of any plant with a name of pheobe somewhere in its title which will thrive in a sunny position in clay soil. I am a novice gardener so limited care would be preferable. thanks

Peter Beale's Roses do indeed do it though currently out of stock.

There is a Rose (a Ramanas type) called 'Phoebe's Pink Frilled. Being a rugosa type, it will be virtually disease resistant. David Austin or Peter Beale's may do it. You could check the RHS Plantfinder online too. Just type the following into their search engine: rosa phoebe's pink frilled (without any punctuation or nomenclature marks).
Rugosa types are among the easiest of all roses to look after and being a rose, they absolutely love clay soil.
