United Kingdom
This odd fruit was recently found in my garden in mid-Norfolk, perhaps dropped by a bird and probably growing locally; it is about the size of a small hens' egg and a rather nice, but unusual pale mauve colour. Luckily it does contain some viable looking seeds.
If you can identify it I'd be grateful. Thank you,
David Wheatley.

It might be a passionfruit. They eventually go darker purple and wrinkly before you can eat them. The edible ones are Passiflora edulis, the ones most people grow are Passiflora caerula. They do produce fruits which are golden yellow. They are not really edible.

I would also say Passion fruit, but not the edible one. Passiflora can certain grow in the UK, though not well in my garden :(
Worth germinating the seed to get a nice looking vine.

Maybe a seedling of one of the hardy hybrids, such as 'Incense'?
