Does anyone know what is eating the petals of my winter violas? Have checked the pot and can't see any obvious signs of bug infestation.

Could also be bird damage.

Earwigs too - they like flower petals very much. You can sometimes see the tips of the leaves chewed a bit as well if its those. Go out with a torch after dark, see what's about on the plants, if there is anything now the weather's cooling off.

Thanks for that. I will take a look later to catch the culprits in the act!!

My guess would be Caterpillars, slugs and snails. I actually think slugs.

By now we should know. Come on, Amst., did you go out and check? Don't keep us in suspense. I'm plumping for tiny snails.

Yes guys they were tiny snails! Have removed them and sent them to a 'better place'! (my neighbours neglected garden) not sure sure if I can manage to pop out every evening though being a busy working mum!

Possibly vine weavil? You don't get to see them, just where they've been. Most bugs seem to be active for longer this year due to the continuing mild weather.
