Laurel contains compounds of cyanide (!!!) so don't breathe in the smoke if you decide to burn the cuttings! I don't know if these will affect the soil if used as a mulch, but it should be composted before using as a mulch. Green materials takes nitrogen from the soil and will rob the mulched plants of this nutrient.
