I brought a lot of bulbs of gadliolus italicus from my previous garden. New garden only 3 miles away, some rotted away, some came up and were looking OK but then died back and appeared to have been attacked from below surface as no sign of bulb - something appears to have eaten them. Is it worth my trying again, I'm in north cornwall in a garden proving to be something of a frost pocket

On plant Gladiolus italicus

It's always worth another try. Improve the soil with compost and some grit for better drainage. This winter has been very difficult for a lot of plants that normally sail through with no problems.
