Hi all. What's the general concensus on planting rose Souvenir du Docteur Jamain against a south facing fence, but under the shade of two mature fruit trees. Good idea? I currently have one against a north facing hedge but it's doing badly and needs moving. Don't have a west or east facing aspect that's plantable.

if its not thriving it will die any way so what's too lose. move it, cosset it until it is established and fingers crossed.

It likes a bright position but doesn't like hot sun. How much shade do the trees cast?

Thanks everyone. I'll move it and see what happens. They are mature apple and plum trees and it's reasonably shady underneath.

I found it needed a bit of molly coddling to get the best from it. Likes a sheltered sunny place, like all of us. Awful in a pot where it suffered badly from downy mildew.
