Will the real shamrock please stand up? Every March, here in the U.S., a half dozen or more different plants are sold in nurseries as "Shamrock". It may be of no practical use, but I would like to know which species is the original Irish shamrock.

Basically there isn't one Irish shamrock - take a look at http://landscaping.about.com/cs/lawns/a/clover_lawns.htm
for all the info

That's what I was afraid of, Moon Grower. A friend of mine is a nurseryman, and he was just complaining to me that no matter what plant he tried to sell as "Shamrock", about 1 out of 4 of his customers complained that that wasn't the "real Shamrock". At least now I can show him the top 4 contenders among the Irish themselves!

Thank you!
