We have a 10 yr old lily pilly hedge formal trimmed, growing on slopping ground and trimmed to one height. In one area it is 10feet tall. If we let it grow (to reduce maintenience) we do not know how to trim/tidy it to retrain it to be trees. We also do not want it to look like an unkept and over grown hedge. Do you have any suggestions? thanks

I think you need to keep pruning it.

I am not familiar with the hedge lily pilly but I see from Gardening Australia that it is evergreen. If your ten foot tall bushes are at the foot of the slope how about cutting it all to the height at the top, in steps going down the slope. The variety you have may not take too kindly to being reduced drastically so have a look on the internet site of ABC and try and figure out which one you have.

How do I say thanks?
