I would like to fill up a 48 x 48 cm container in the sun standing on gravel with Erigeron - is this a good idea?

It will still seed around - but I love it, so I encourage it! It even grows in cracks in walls...:-))

Your container sounds fine for this Erigeron, Guest. Remember that it grows in a poor soil so add plenty of grit to your compost. It has a reputation of seeding around freely and becoming a, pretty, weed so a container is probably the best home for it.
