I have a downward sloping garden which has quite a lot of clay about 1 ft down. How can I drain this area as it is always very wet after rain. I need a path from decking area to the bottom so thought of putting down a shingle path.

The only way is proper drainage works of some kind. It'd probably be cheaper to use paving instead for your path, laid "stepping stone" style - then if it floods, it won't wash out.
