Phormiums are a bit more hardy, but even some of those have taken a real bashing this winter, though I've not yet heard of any actually dying because of it. The kind of winter we've just had is like the ones we used to have, but these days seems to be a rare event - if you're worried though, you could keep your replacement cordylines in pots and move them under shelter (if this is possible) for the winter, just in case we get another one like it. In London, many people lost Cordylines, but having driven about a fair bit in the last week, many have survived largely unscathed.

Bamboo - I'm sure my phormium has died! I've cut it right back but no sign of any new growth :~((((.

In a pot or in the ground, Skillen?

It's in the ground Bamboo.

Oh dear - can you let me know if it grows again or not in a few weeks? I saw some in pots in the garden centre today which had obviously been out all winter - I couldn't see any new growth on them, but they were definitely still alive and in pots, and in a very exposed situation. Guess it depends where you live as much as anything. I have 4 in pots and they're all fine.

Thanks Bamboo, temperatures here were as cold as -18deg over the winter, so I don't hold out much hope. If it is ok, when would I expect to see new growth? Bear in mind it is Scotland and only a few crocuses (soggy) have come through so far!
Will let you know then if dead or alive. :~)).

I can't answer that, not this year - but I'd guess you'd know by end of May, surely

Thanks Bamboo, will let you know.
