Thanks, I've just looked up 'cotoneaster.' to see what it says. They all seem to have red berries? I inherited this garden a few ayears ago and haven't noticed this plant growing before, I don't think there's been any berries on it before.

This looks just like one of my cotoneasters which has thick white blossom beloved by bees, followed by yellow berries, which, considering the amout of bloom, tend to be rather sparse. It gets better each year though.

as you've not noced it before it could only be 2-3 years old. you may get flowers next year. mine have lots of flowers but they are not very conspicuous. bees love them though.

Might be cotoneaster franchettii - it often appears as a 'gift' from the birds. They can get quite large though

Update: I just had another look at the plant and found a solitary red berry on it. So that would seem to confirm cotoneaster. Thanks everyone.
