I have tried for years to try and solve this problem! I have tried everything. I even have high fencing and hedging surrounding my garden but still they find a way in, untill now!

It may take you some time but you must work out the cat's entry and exit points. If possible you must then create obstacles. I have with very fine netting and under hedging i have placed the twigs from earlier prunings from the prickliest bushes i have. It looks completely natural and the cat will not cross the barrier. 2 months have passed by now and i have had NO deposits! Good luck!

Get a cat of your own - they won't let other ones into the garden (most of the time)

our local rspca officer sggested a kiddies spud [potato] gun. The spud pellet cant penetrate the skin and the noise helps too. Whilst the cats [1 neighbour has 5!] still come in they rarely linger long enough to do their 'doings'.
So from 8-12 offerings daily, I now find there is 1-3 a week.

Seaburngirl, is that leagal??? I guess it must be if the RSPCA man said it, It sounds a bit extreme. i don't know if I could do this. But thats for the suggestion

well as they are used to 'fire' at each other they must be legal. I got 'shot' at 3ft and hardly felt it so at 10ft or more the spud is just going to be a touch on the cats fur. and a reminder to get out of my garden.

Or a supersoaker, you know, those huge, powerful water pistol guns - I used one of those on a visiting tom years ago - but it only works if you're out there all the time! Otherwise, any soil you've just turned over (to which cats will be magnetically attracted) stick loads of pea sticks into it vertically and wind string round them till it settles again, or the plants grow. One of my clients uses branches of his holly laid on the ground, that seems to work too, but looks pretty messy.

A water gun sounds more like it.
Plantmaiden how old is your dog?

well the supersoaker will blast your plants too. so take careful aim so you dont damage the plants you are trying to protect.

Ive got a good supersoaker my husband likes using it its called a hosepipe.
It certainly keeps the little wotsits away.
As much as i like cats , it does become annoying when they leave their business behind.
So if i see one in the garden its either the hosepipe , or clapping or a loud noise , it'll get the message in the end.
Ive done all what ive said in my message and it works.
Ive even tried cat deterrant and that does NOT work, especially the so called green pellets thats supposed to put cats off.
Cats also like gravel i ended up putting broken eggshells on that and that worked, if not strong disinfectant on gravel if its doing its number 2's on it.the smell of the disinfectant they dont like

My front garden is worse affected!! I have tried putting hot chilli down that works until it rains. Tried clapping and shooing them away, the cats round here are stubborn they just turn around and look at you like I'm mad!! There not fussed by Magic my dog either, the little sods just stand their ground!! I think they know she can't run very fast now; so they wind her up!
