Problem with Buttercups and nettles.. Any suggestions?

Well both are invasive weeds - give thanks you haven't got couch grass and bind weed as well!

Both like a friable, rich soilthat allows their roots to explore widely. Nettles, particularly, thrive in ground that was used as a midden.
