It's been quite cold at night (its only about 3 degrees here in the Midlands tonight). Peppers and toms like warmth to germinate. Try putting them in your airing cupboard, but remember to check them every day and bring them out as soon as the seedlings emerge. They'd be best on a window sill untill the night temps come up a bit more. (I'm assuming your greenhouse is not heated?)

thanks for your help sid. you're right, it's not heated. i haven't got room in the airing cupboard so i'll bring them in onto the kitchen windowsill for a bit to help them along. i was worried i might have used unsuitable compost and would end up sowing more!

Peppers take a while to germinate anyway - sowed mine 2 weeks ago in a heated propagator and still waiting for them to come up.

What sort of compost are you using? A light mix of multi purpose and sharp sand is what I use and seems to work ok.

to be honest i dont even know what compost it is- it was some left overs from a bag i bought earlier in the year to put a bare root fruit tree in.
i'm sure they will germinate fine if i just exercise a little patience! good to know you are still waiting for yours- that puts my mind at rest a bit as i really don't want to have to start again.

Good luck with it - weather's warming up slowely, so that should help.

I planted mine on the 15th February 2010 and they are now about a 1/4 inch high, give them time and they will come through.
Mind you some of my seeds have been a bit slow this year and i have a heated greenhouse .
I planted red hot poker seeds and Aubergine seeds and they were terribly slow in germinating, but they are poking through the surface now

How do I say thanks?
