Anyone left a cotinus Grace to its on devices....Rather than stooling or pruning it? Cant find a picture on here of a large one.
Does it need pruning to stop it going lanky?

I'd say yes it definately needs pruning to stop if from going lanky !
I've had them and i left one of them to its own devices and it developed exactly as you said - by leaving it this way it'll get very wind damaged too - they just thrash around then and break ..... and then it needs pruning anyway !
I reduce mine by half every year and this makes a good shaped and tidy plant.
