My research has turned up Rhododendron ferrugineum, the Rose des Alpes, from the French Alps, and one of the first species introduced to Great Britain.

And mine turned up another Rhododendron called Rose of Alps too, can't remember which one it was, hence my query about the name tag.

The picture of the tag looks like the company is using Rose of Alpes as a common name for Rhododendrons in general!

Hmm, not much help, that label, then. Okay, Rhododendron ferrugineum gets about 2 feet high, leaves are 'rusty/scaly' beneath, deep pink flowers May to July - 'Rose of Alps' could also refer to Rhododendron hirsutum, but the differences between them are minor. Treat as other rhododendron/azalea varieties, rich, dampish and acidic soil, some shade.

Previous question
Is that the whole of the name printed on the tag? And what do you want to know about it, specifically?
