spotted a rhubarb small root with stalk approx 3" long with good shape leaf in sainsbury bought it will it be ok to put it in the ground with lots of compost +rotted manure mix or should i wait for a few weeks ,i just dont want to lose it only ever had one before years ago but that was given me from being chopped in half so it was well strong and in better weather

Harden it off before planting out though, Snoopy, if its from a supermarket, where its been kept inside.

rhubarb is tough but if the plant has been sitting in a warm supermarket it won't appreciate the cold and wet. So treat as you would any seedlings you'd grown in the greenhouse.

I'd plant it as soon as the ground is fit. Its far too soggy here!
