I don't have a problem with cats as I have a dog. My neighbour has asked me if there's a friendly way to deter the cats coming into her garden. Any ideas please?

the plant is coleus cannis. but it hasnt worked for me and I dont like the smell either. toy spud gun was reccomended by an rspca man as it makes a noise and the spud pet doesnt penetrate the fur/skin.

thank you everyone. I don't know if I can get photos up - may have to ask my son when he's next around. Have read everyone's blog and it's nice to know about different reasons for and different styles of gardening.
I'll make an effort a bit later to write about my garden.
Meanwhile I'll advise my neighbour on water pistols I think.! Don't want to encourage my dog to chase cats, as although a terrier, she's got a really nice nature.

My neighbour (who used to work in a Vet practice) has just told me that the best product for deterring cats is "Silent Roar" which is made into pellets from lion dung (!) Googled it and it's highly recommended. It's marketed as a fertilser - which is what it is, but it deters cats too.

i've been told that cats don't like the smell of vitamin c, but the plants to repel cats don't work.andyf

I have a cat who comes into the garden. She is a plumptious tortoiseshell cat I call Calico Cat. She sits under the bird feeders and puts them off feeding. Nothing I can do has stopped her from her visits. She does run if I rattle the key in the door but only as far as the shrubbery!!!!! I put orange peel. Then lemon where she lurks, eventually she sat on them. The other day there were pigeon feathers all near the bird feeders but I think it got away. She sits and stares me out. She is a very dedicated ornithologist. I tried water pistols, but plump as she is on wood pigeons,if she catches any, she can run faster!!!! I did a blog on her some time ago.
