It's normal to give them a light hair-cut in the autumn to remove the dead flowers, and then a slightly harder prune in spring - but never into old wood, as they don't regenerate. I think you could safely prune them now.

Cut back lavender in the autumn immediately after flowering. Don't cut into the hard wood though.
