There does not appear to be any growth on 2 of my tree ferns and in the centre of the crown it appears that they have hardened over somewhat. I am prepared to wait and see what happens. I did cover the crown with fronds during the long cold winter. Does any body know what the problem may be please. Also if after a few months of no growth is it o.k to saw perhaps a couple of inches from the top.

Not sure about sawing some off - if no signs of growth by end of May, then I suppose its worth a try. Its the winter that's caused this - it was much colder than usual, and even people who fleeced and wrapped their tree ferns are having trouble. If all you did was cover with a few dead fronds, that is unlikely to have been enough protection.
